Southport man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment following an assault in Southport

Merseyside Police is welcoming the sentence of a Southport man to 10 years imprisonment after the domestic assault of a woman in Southport in March this year. 22-year-old Ryan Quigley from Kensington Road in Southport was arrested on Saturday 4 March following the incident, which occurred at around 11.30am on a footbridge off Marine Parade in Southport. Immediately following the incident, Quigley was injured in a collision with a passing car and taken to hospital. The 19-year-old victim suffered a facial injury in the incident, following which a knife was recovered close to the scene. Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: “This was an extremely nasty domestic incident in which Quigley lured the victim to the location and attempted to slash her with a knife, and thankfully she was not more seriously injured. I would like to thank the members of the public who provided valuable accounts to assist the investigation, and after we issued a media appeal. “Quigley has now been removed from the streets for a significant period of time, and I hope this sentence gives his victim some peace of mind and encourages people who are victims of domestic abuse to get in touch, and be assured that we will fully support victims in the investigation of such crimes.”
