Armed police were called to a residential street in Hillside this morning (Tuesday, April 7) following reports that two dogs were on the loose.
Emergency services attended Lynton Road at around 10.45am after concerns were raised for public safety. During the incident, a man in his 30s suffered injuries to his stomach and arm. He was taken to hospital for treatment, although his injuries are not believed to be serious. A second man, believed to be in his 70s, was also approached aggressively by the dogs but was not injured.
A significant police presence, including specialist dog units, attended the scene. Merseyside Police later confirmed that one of the dogs was destroyed in order to prevent further harm and remove the risk to the public. The dogs involved are not believed to be a banned breed.
By early afternoon, a cordon remained in place at the end of Lynton Road, close to Hillside Golf Club, as uniformed officers, detectives and forensic teams continued their work.
Residents in the area described a dramatic response, with some saying they were advised to remain inside their homes shortly before hearing gunshots. One local resident reported seeing a dog being cornered by officers moments before shots were fired.
Others said they witnessed police arriving in large numbers, with many expressing shock at the scale of the response in what is usually a quiet residential area.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
