Botanic Gardens 150th Anniversary Fun Day – A Special Celebration in Southport!

This Sunday, 15th June, one of Sefton’s most beloved attractions will mark a remarkable milestone — 150 years of the Botanic Gardens in Southport! This fun-filled family event promises to be a highlight in our local calendar and is not to be missed.

From fairground rides and donkey rides to live entertainment, stalls, and delicious food and drink, there’s something for everyone. The event runs from 10am to 4pm, with free entry for all.

More than just a fun day out, all proceeds from this event will go back into the upkeep of the Botanic Gardens — ensuring this beautiful, historic park continues to thrive for generations to come. The dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the park in pristine condition will be on hand to meet and chat with visitors, and you can even learn how to join their group if you’d like to get involved in keeping the gardens looking their best.

There will also be a fascinating display of old photographs, showcasing how the Botanic Gardens have changed over the years. The Settle family, who have run the on-site café for an incredible 58 years — with roots stretching back to 1910 when their grandmother worked on the park’s boats — will also be there to share their amazing family history.

As an added highlight, Merseyside Police will be in attendance to show their support for this milestone event. Matrix, Dogs, Drones and Mounted Inspector, Phil McManus, shared:

“My officers and police staff were overwhelmed by the public support they received following the disorder in Southport last summer. When asked to support this anniversary event, my team and I were only too happy to respond and attend.”

Look out for Southport’s neighbourhood officers, along with their dogs and horses, who will be joining in the day’s celebrations. Be sure to stop and say hello!
