CCTV Appeal After Man Suffers Life-Changing Injuries Following Reported Serious Assault in Southport

Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they urgently want to speak to as part of an investigation into a reported serious assault in #Southport which left a 39-year-old man with life-changing injuries.

In the early hours of Sunday 2 August, the victim was at The Avenue Bar on Scarisbrick Avenue in Southport.

Police say he left the premises alone and it is believed that he was then followed by three unknown males.

At around 4.45am, the 39-year-old was found collapsed in the hallway of his home in Southport and covered in blood.

He was taken to hospital, where doctors discovered he had suffered a number of serious injuries.

These included a severe laceration to his right eye which will leave his sight permanently affected, a suspected fractured eye socket, fractures to his head and skull, as well as bruising to his body.

Merseyside Police has launched an investigation and detectives have been carrying out extensive witness and CCTV enquiries in an effort to establish exactly what happened.

A 40-year-old man from #Bootle has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

As the investigation continues, police have now released CCTV images of another man officers would like to identify and speak to. Detectives believe he may have information that could prove vital to their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Keith Swift said: “The man has suffered life changing injuries, and it is vital that we establish what has taken place.”

“I would ask anyone who was in The Avenue bar between 12 midnight and 1am on Sunday 2 August who saw or heard anything or has any information to assist our investigation to get in touch.”

“I would also ask who recognises the male pictured to contact us as we believe he could assist with our enquiries.”
