A positive change is arriving across Sefton this week as more communities take a big step towards cleaner streets and better recycling.
From tomorrow, households in Blundellsands, Church, Litherland, Linacre and Victoria wards will begin moving from black sack collections to wheelie bins. It is a welcome improvement that brings these areas in line with most of the borough while helping create a cleaner and more sustainable place to live.
Over the weekend, new bins will be delivered to homes, ready for the first collections starting on Tuesday 24 March. Each household will receive a grey bin for general waste and a brown bin for recycling, making it easier to manage waste and recycle more.
This change is about much more than new bins. It will help keep streets looking tidy, reduce litter and discourage fly tipping. It will also prevent common problems caused by animals such as rats and seagulls tearing open bags and scattering rubbish.
Encouraging more recycling is at the heart of the update. With a simpler system in place, more materials can be reused instead of going to landfill, supporting a greener future for Sefton.
Residents will keep the same collection day, with waste collected on an alternate weekly schedule. Bins should be placed at the front of properties at the kerbside with handles facing out by 6:30 in the morning.
Support will be available throughout the transition, with council staff out in the community during early collection days to offer help and guidance. Anyone who finds it difficult to move their bin can request assistance through the council’s assisted collection service.
This is a positive step forward for Sefton, helping to create cleaner streets, stronger communities and a better environment for everyone.
Sefton Council team is here to support residents. If you struggle to move your bins, you can request an assessment for our assisted collection service by calling 0345 140 0845.
