Four people tragically die following devastating house fire in Bootle

Four people have tragically died following a devastating house fire in Bootle in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 22 September.

Emergency services were called to Stone Square after Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call reporting a fire at a semi detached property.

The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 3.45am, with firefighters faced with an intense blaze which had spread rapidly through the property.

Six fire engines were in attendance at the height of the incident.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house to search for occupants while tackling the fire.

One casualty was found outside the property and was taken into the care of North West Ambulance Service before being transferred to hospital.

During searches inside the property, firefighters discovered four people showing no signs of life. It has now been officially confirmed that all four people sadly died.

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service will now carry out a full joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Emergency services have remained at the scene throughout the day, with a significant cordon in place as investigations continue.

Nick Searle, Chief Fire Officer at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“Firstly, our thoughts are with everyone who’s been affected by the tragic incident this morning.”

“After a 999 call to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service fire control room at 3.30am this morning, crews from surrounding stations were informed and mobilised to the scene with the first fire engine arriving at 3.45am.”

“The initial fire crews arrived to find the semi detached house well alight. Crews were wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building to search the property for occupants, and fighting intense fire, which has spread very rapidly.”

“Six fire engines were in attendance at the height of the incident. On arrival of the fire crews, a casualty was already outside of the property, and was taken into the care of Northwest Ambulance Service and subsequently transferred to hospital.”

“During the course of the search of the property, firefighters discovered four casualties, showing no signs of life, and it’s now being confirmed that all four have tragically lost their lives.”

“There will now be a full joint investigation with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police into the cause of the fire. Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of those lost, and fire crews will maintain a visible and reassuring presence in the community over the coming days. Thank you.”

This is a deeply tragic incident for the Bootle community and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.
