Greenbank High School reassured parents and carers today, Friday 23rd January after responding to a suspected hoax email received by the school.
As a precautionary measure, pupils and staff at Greenbank High School were asked to remain in their classrooms shortly after midday while Merseyside Police attended the site to carry out checks.
The school immediately implemented its shelter mode procedures, which allowed lessons to continue as normal while additional safety measures were put in place. Internal doors and windows were secured, and any pupils who were outside at the time were brought indoors as a precaution.
Parents and carers were contacted promptly and kept informed throughout the afternoon. Police were present at the school to provide reassurance, and the correspondence received is understood to be similar to hoax emails sent to a number of other schools across the region earlier this week.
Head Teacher Davina Aspinall confirmed that although the email is believed to be a hoax, the school took the situation seriously and acted swiftly to ensure everyone’s safety. She thanked Merseyside Police, the school’s Safer Schools Officer, and praised both staff and pupils for their calm and sensible response.
The school has confirmed that pupils have now been dismissed as normal and that the school will reopen as usual on Monday.
Message sent to parents and carers:
Dear Parents and Carers.
As a precaution, the school has moved briefly into Shelter Mode following police advice in response to a suspected hoax that has affected a number of local schools. All students are safe, remain in their classrooms, and lessons are continuing as normal.
Police will be on site to provide reassurance.
Please do not be concerned. We will update you if needed. Kind regards.
