We have received updated information today regarding the redevelopment of Crosby’s former Carnegie Library on College Road.
Cunard Construction Ltd has submitted a revised programme to Sefton Council outlining the projected timetable for completion of the works. Priority is currently being given to the unit that will become Moose Coffee, with work having begun in late January and the internal fit out expected to be completed in early May. Construction on the two office units started in early February and is scheduled to continue through to the end of October. External works, including landscaping, are planned during the spring months, and the overall development is currently targeting completion in December 2026.
The Grade II listed Carnegie Library first opened in 1905, funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and served the community as a public library until its closure in 2013. The building is now being transformed into a mixed use community hub, combining a restaurant, digital workspace and flexible co working offices. Plans aim to preserve the building’s historic character — including its vaulted ceilings and original architectural features — while introducing modern amenities such as mezzanine floors and meeting rooms.
The planning application for the scheme remains under consideration by Sefton Council. The long term goal of the project is to secure a sustainable future for one of Crosby’s most recognisable historic landmarks while bringing it back into active community use.
We will continue to keep residents informed as further progress is made.
