Lidl has set its sights on expanding across Sefton could see some exciting new additions. The budget-friendly supermarket has just released its 2025 site requirements brochure, revealing over 30 potential new store locations across Liverpool and the surrounding areas — with Crosby, Formby, and Southport all making the list.
As part of a £500 million investment plan, Lidl is ramping up its presence nationwide, aiming to open more than 40 new stores in this financial year alone. Southport is already confirmed for a new store this year, and the retailer is now considering more sites across Sefton including Crosby and Formby.
Other areas featured in the wishlist include Anfield, Liverpool City Centre, Aigburth, Huyton, and Walton, as Lidl continues its mission to bring high-quality, affordable food to communities throughout the region.
Richard Taylor, Chief Development Officer at Lidl GB, said: “Our latest site requirements brochure reinforces the scale of our ambition for the future. New Lidl stores mean new jobs, new opportunities for British suppliers, and continued investment into local economies. We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing supermarkets in the country, and with this investment, we’re taking another big step in our journey.”
With this bold expansion strategy, Lidl is set to bring even more choice, convenience, and value to households across Sefton and beyond.
Not exactly news. Lidl held a public consultation meeting in Formby Library over six weeks ago. They seemed to think that Formby folk could get to the new site on public transport, and were somewhat dismayed when the meeting informed them that no buses run along the bypass- they all go through the village.
They were similarly dismayed to be told that Aldi had had a similar proposal refused by the nimby Sefton planning committee on the grounds ( partially at least) that " putting yet another junction in the bypass would seriously impede the traffic flow"
So, good luck with THAT one, Lidl. The brown envelopes may have to be a little larger
