Motorists please be aware that the M57 is expected to remain closed until at least tomorrow morning, Saturday 2nd November, following a fatal collision near Switch Island earlier this evening. Police would like to thank everyone for their patience while enquiries are carried out.

This is the second fatality on this road in two days. Yesterday, Thursday 31st October at 9.30am, emergency services were called to Junction 4 northbound to reports of a collision between a Renault Clio and a Honda Jazz.

Two women, one from each vehicle, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Roads Policing Sergeant Mat Shaw said: "This is a tragic incident and specialist officers will be supporting the families affected.

"A full investigation is underway and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, if they have not already done so. Your information or dashcam footage may be vital in established exactly what happened."

A spokesman from Merseyside Police spoke about the collision this evening: “MERSEYSIDE Police can confirm that emergency services are on the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the M57 today, Friday 1 November.”

“At around 6.15pm, reports were received of a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle near to the northbound junction for Switch Island.”

“Officers are on the scene as we look to establish the full circumstances.”
