Major road closed in Sefton causing major traffic jams in all other directions

UPDATE:
We can confirm that all lanes have now been re-opened.
Police have confirmed that three cars have been involved in a crash on Broom's Cross Road. A Vauxhall Astra, a Ford Ranger and a Vauxhall Insignia have been involved.
There was slow traffic and congestion due to the crash involving three cars on Broom's Cross Road A5758. It was closed in both directions between B5422 Brickwall Lane and A5036 Dunnings Bridge Road / M57 (Switch Island).
North West Ambulance service confirmed that "at least two people" have been taken to hospital following the crash.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “We were contacted at 9.30am today, Wednesday 3rd November, following reports of a three car collision on Brooms Cross Road in Netherton involving a Vauxhall Astra, a Ford Ranger and a Vauxhall Insignia.”
Emergency services are currently at the scene. There is no information about any injuries at this stage.
Road closures including the entrance to the M57 are currently in place as the incident is dealt with and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
An investigation into the collision is underway and the vehicles are in the process of being recovered.

The Brooms Cross Road is completely blocked off by police. No traffic at all. All cars are diverted down the Northern Perimeter Road.
Avoid the area if possible. Update:
