Man arrested after brutal Litherland assault leaves victim in critical condition

A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Litherland that has left a victim fighting for his life in hospital.

At around 11.15pm on Sunday 29 March, police were called to Hinton Street following reports of an altercation. It is believed a man in his 30s was attacked by a group of men, with one reportedly armed with a long handled weapon.

The victim suffered significant injuries to his head, face and hands and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Following extensive enquiries, officers arrested a man on Wednesday 15 April in connection with the incident. A 32 year old man from Bootle was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and Section 18 wounding with intent. He has since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “While we have made an arrest, our enquiries continue to bring those responsible to justice.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which will help us with our enquiries to please get in touch.

“If we haven’t already spoken to you, I urge residents and motorists to check CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam recordings, as this may provide vital evidence.”
