Merseyside Fire & Rescue were called to a serious house fire in Crosby this morning

Fire crews were called to a serious house fire on Oaklands Avenue in Crosby during the early hours of this morning.

Crews were alerted at 5.43am and arrived on scene at 5.48am, with three fire engines in attendance. On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in a first floor front bedroom of a semi detached property. Two firefighters entered the property under rapid deployment, carrying out a search while tackling the fire using high pressure hose reel jets.

A casualty was rescued from the top floor, and emergency life saving procedures were carried out at the scene by fire crews alongside a paramedic. While this was taking place, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continued to fight the fire inside the property using two high pressure hose reels. The neighbouring property was evacuated as a precaution.

The fire was brought under control by 6.11am. Utilities were isolated and the building was ventilated. Merseyside Police were also in attendance. Fire crews checked the loft space for any spread of fire and continued to monitor temperatures.

The casualty was taken to hospital in a serious condition by North West Ambulance Service for further medical treatment.

Firefighters carried out additional checks in the adjoining property, and residents were later allowed to return to their home. Crews left the scene at 7.06am.
