Northway Community Primary School in Maghull has confirmed it is closed today, Monday 2nd March, due to a fault with its fire alarm system.
The school, based on Dodds Lane, informed parents and carers this morning that it cannot legally open without a fully functioning fire alarm because of health and safety requirements.
In a message to families, the school apologised for the short notice, explaining that the issue came to light after the alarm activated earlier this morning and would not reset. The fault was identified with assistance from Sefton Security. Parents have been told they will be kept informed as the situation develops.
This is not the first time the school has faced disruption. In October 2024, Northway Primary was forced to close after a burst water pipe left the building without a water supply. At that time, the school issued an emergency message stating it was unsafe for children to attend.
The burst pipe was located under the front of the building. United Utilities attended the scene and confirmed the leak was on a private pipe rather than part of their main network. Although not responsible for repairing private pipework, engineers made the area accessible for further repairs and provided advice to the school. The school worked with Sefton Council to resolve the issue and reopen safely.
Parents will understandably hope that today’s closure can be resolved quickly so pupils can return to school as soon as possible. We will update readers as further information becomes available.
