Police appeal for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Southport this morning


Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Southport this morning, Thursday 19 October.


A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "At around 6.50am, emergency services were called to the junction of Bispham Road and Wennington Road to reports of a collision involving a motorbike and a car."


"Emergency services are at the scene and can sadly confirm the motorbike rider, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene."


"The driver of the black Mercedes car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

Road closures are in place around Bispham Road, Wennington Road, Old Park Lane, Canning Road Thornton Road, Newton Street while emergency services attend the incident."


"We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident."

"We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following a collision earlier this morning."


“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers."


“I would also appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or properties in the area that have CCTV to please contact us. Alternatively if you were driving in the vicinity I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident and to also come forward."


“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family.”
