Police appeal for witnesses after major RTC on approach to Switch Island from M58
Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses or dash-cam footage following an RTC between a car and a lorry on the approach to Switch Island on the M58 today.
The vehicle was a Citreon Berlingo which went under the rear of the lorry, completely caving in the drivers side. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle. The RTC could be clearly seen from the approach to Switch Island from Maghull and onlookers were horrified and obviously worried for the driver.
The RTC happened at approximately 4:15pm this afternoon, Tuesday 13th April on the M58 westbound at junction 1. There was no access to Switch Island from the M58 and all traffic was being brought off the motorway at Jct 1 Kirkby/Maghull.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “We're very pleased to report the driver will be ok and is stable in hospital with relatively minor injuries. The road will be reopen soon, we're just clearing the scene now. Thank you to everyone who stopped to help.”
Did you see anything or can you help? DM @MerPolTraffic or @MerPolCC if you can help. More here: crowd.in/jExI3u
Please avoid the area if possible.
We are so happy that the extremely lucky driver only suffered minor injuries and hopefully she makes a full recovery.
