Police Dog Ziggy Tracks Down E-Bike Rider After Dangerous Ride Through Maghull

A high-powered e-bike has been seized after its rider allegedly sped through Maghull before attempting to evade police by fleeing into nearby woodland.

At around 11pm on Tuesday night, officers on patrol spotted the rider going through a red light on Deyes Lane in Maghull. When officers attempted to stop the bike, the rider failed to stop and allegedly rode at speed through the area, including along pavements, before heading towards woodland at Charlotte’s Pagsy in Kirkby.

Although the rider initially managed to disappear into the wooded area, Police Dog Ziggy was called in to assist. The police dog successfully tracked the suspect and also located the e-bike, which had been hidden behind a wall.

A 15-year-old was spoken to by officers at the scene and is due to attend a voluntary interview at a police station in connection with the incident.

Chief Inspector Rob Budden praised the actions of officers and Police Dog Ziggy, saying the rider’s actions had put both themselves and members of the public at risk. He said the incident demonstrates that there is “no hiding place” for those who choose to ride e-bikes dangerously.

He added that police understand the concerns many residents have about the anti-social and intimidating use of e-bikes and scrambler bikes and said Merseyside Police remains committed to removing those responsible from the streets.

The seizure forms part of Operation Gears, Merseyside Police’s ongoing campaign to tackle dangerous, illegal and anti-social vehicle use across the region. The operation includes proactive patrols, enforcement activity and community engagement aimed at making roads and public spaces safer for everyone.
