Merseyside Police are investigating after malicious email threats were sent to a number of schools across Merseyside this morning, including reports affecting Chesterfield High School in Crosby.
Officers have confirmed that several schools received similar communications and enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.
At this stage, police believe the messages are hoaxes, but they are being taken seriously while investigations continue.
Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said:
“We understand that parents and carers will be concerned and as a result we are liaising with all schools and providing advice and reassurance as enquiries continue.”
“Based on the information we have received and assessed, there has been no requirement for those schools to close.”
Police are continuing their enquiries and are working closely with schools to ensure the safety of pupils, staff and the wider community.
Anyone with information about the threats is asked to contact police on 101 or message @MerPolCC on social media. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
