Police issue CCTV of a man in Seaforth who assaulted an elderly couple on their own doorstep

Detectives have issued CCTV images of a man who could have information to assist with their enquiries following an attempted robbery in Seaforth yesterday, Sunday 10 March.

At around 8.15am it was reported that a man was banging on the door of a house on Montgomery Close and when the elderly male occupant answered the door, he threatened the occupant with a metal pole and demanded money. A struggle ensued and the occupant was assaulted. The victim, a man his 70s, sustained minor injuries to his face and arm.

The victim’s wife who was pushed over during the incident suffered cuts and swelling to her leg and foot.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect responsible, and detectives have issued images of a man they believe could assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “This was a cowardly attack on an elderly couple who have been left shaken and are currently being looked after by their family."

“This incident took place at around 8.15am yesterday morning, so I urge anyone who saw the incident or noticed something suspicious around that time, which may have been captured on CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward with anything that might help with the investigation."

“I am also appealing to the man featured in the images, or anyone who recognises him from his distinctive clothing to come forward. We believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.”
