Sefton Bubble is thrilled to report on the remarkable sighting of the Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, which graced the skies over our Bubble and indeed the UK last night, Friday 10th May.
Enthusiastic observers shared awe-inspiring images of the phenomenon, visible even along the south coast of England.
The display was made possible by a powerful geomagnetic storm, prompting the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to issue a rare solar storm warning, heightening anticipation for the event. With clear skies prevailing on Friday evening, residents across the UK had the opportunity to witness this celestial spectacle firsthand.

Will we see this rare phenomenon again tonight?
Absolutely we will if the sky is clear and it is predicted to be clear over our Bubble. The aurora activity is anticipated on Saturday 11th May and experts suggest waiting until at least 10:30pm for optimal viewing conditions.
Sefton Bubble encourages readers to seize the opportunity to witness this natural wonder, away from light pollution, and to capture the magic of the Northern Lights with their smartphones.
This event marks a rare occurrence, as the Northern Lights are typically confined to northern regions of the UK. However, recent years have seen increased sightings in southern parts, attributed to the ongoing solar cycle nearing its peak.
The colorful display, ranging from green to pink and scarlet, results from charged particles from the sun interacting with gases in Earth's atmosphere, particularly nitrogen and oxygen.
