Redrow supports the Sefton Period Charity

As part of the ongoing community engagement with areas close to where it builds, Redrow has supported a Formby project that aims to alleviate period poverty among local girls.

In association with its Sanderling Park development located off Andrew’s Lane, Redrow has donated £400 to The Red Box Project - a not-for-profit community initiative set up to deliver things like free pads and tampons to all schools from Formby, to Magull, Melling and Bootle.

Red Box Project’s Sefton Coordinator, Mandy Smith, says she set up the Sefton branch after experiencing first hand, how difficult it can be for young girls to purchase essential products.

“The Red Box Project – Sefton, began at the end of January 2019 and it’s something I passionately believe in. As a single mum of two girls I know what some teenagers go through and so wanted to help make an impact and make lives just that much easier.”

Since launching in January, the project has now been extended to local youth and sports groups in the area and to date, the team have delivered 100 boxes.

“We fully depend on donations from the general public. We have donation points where people can drop off items and we also undertake awareness sessions usually in places of work or shops. The cash donation from Redrow means we can continue to support our local community. We can buy the products we need plus additional items such as boxes, posters.”

Lesley Myers, sales manager at Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “Through our community fund of £5,000 we’ve been able to support 10 very diverse community groups across the Formby area. The Red Box Project was definitely a very deserving cause as they make such a positive impact on young girls’ lives and we wanted to ensure they could continue to do so.”
