Update:

We are saddened to report an update to the serious incident at Seaforth Docks.

A 63-year-old man has sadly died following an industrial accident involving a forklift truck at the Port of Liverpool. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10:15am on Wednesday, April 30.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Merseyside Police have confirmed the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been informed, and a police family liaison officer is now supporting them during this extremely difficult time.

Peel Ports had earlier suspended operations at the site, and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified as investigations continue into the circumstances of the incident.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Original story:

A serious industrial incident has taken place at Seaforth Docks this morning, Wednesday 30 April, prompting an emergency response and a temporary halt to operations.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a man in his 60s was involved in an incident involving a forklift truck. Emergency services were first called to the scene at approximately 10:15am. Officers and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service remain at the site, and the Health and Safety Executive has been formally notified.

Peel Ports, which operates the dock, issued a statement confirming that all operations at Seaforth Docks have been suspended until further notice as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said:

“We can confirm that emergency services are currently at Seaforth Docks following a serious industrial incident earlier this morning. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and an investigation is underway.”

While emergency services are actively managing the situation, only authorised traffic is being allowed to enter or exit the dock area. Members of the public and media have not been granted access to the site.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
