On Friday 7th November, during the 5.50pm service from Formby to Liverpool Central, a woman was targeted by a male passenger who allegedly attempted to set her hair on fire several times.
The man is believed to have boarded the train at Waterloo, sitting directly behind the victim. Thankfully, another passenger sitting beside the woman spotted what was happening and alerted her. The offender then left the train at Bootle New Strand.
British Transport Police have since arrested a 37-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of common assault. Their investigation is ongoing.
Officers are particularly keen to speak with the male passenger who warned the victim. It is believed he may have important information to help the investigation. He was seen speaking with the victim immediately after the incident and is thought to have been travelling with a woman.
