Look up at 10:30am as iconic Spitfire, possibly joined by Hawk jets, soars over Sefton coast today

Residents across Sefton, Formby, Southport and Crosby and the wider Sefton coastline could be treated to a truly special sight in the skies this morning, Monday 13th April, as the legendary Supermarine Spitfire takes part in its 90th anniversary tour.

The historic Spitfire K5054 is due to depart Prestwick Airport at approximately 10:00am, subject to weather conditions, before heading south on a commemorative flight.

During the journey, the aircraft is expected to be accompanied by one, and possibly two, BAE Systems Hawk T2 jets, creating a striking formation of past and present in the skies.

Locally, the formation is expected to pass along the Sefton coastline between around 10:25am and 10:35am, with a possible flyover near Southport and RAF Woodvale at approximately 10:30am.

The flight is scheduled to continue on to RAF Valley, where it is expected to arrive at around 11:10am.

As always, timings and visibility will depend on weather conditions, including wind speed and cloud cover. The aircraft may be flying at altitude, meaning they could appear as small specks in the sky, but if conditions are right, it should be a memorable moment.

The tour marks 90 years since the Spitfire’s first flight in 1936, with the original prototype travelling across the UK and flying alongside modern Royal Air Force aircraft to celebrate its remarkable history.
