Merseyside Police Officers appeal to the community to trace dog owner after another dog was killed in #Ainsdale Southport.

Merseyside Police are appealing for information to trace a man after his dog reportedly attacked and killed another dog.

The incident happened on Tuesday 13th August at around 8.30pm at the entrance of Ainsdale Recreation Ground on Liverpool Road, Southport.

The family of the fatally injured dog, a King Charles Cavalier named Lulu, were walking her when they were approached by the offending dog, described as a large size tan coloured cross bread, who was not on a lead and unsupervised.

The other dog viciously attacked Lulu, sadly causing her to suffer fatal injuries as well as injuring her owner who was trying to protect her pet.

Shortly after the incident, an unknown man, described as white, aged between 18-24, around 5ft 8 with ginger hair and wearing a blue tracksuit, attended the location and claimed the dog was his and left the scene with the dog.

Police Constable Kurt Timpson said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack which was witnessed by many people including the young owner of the dog and other children nearby.”

“It is vital that we trace the owner of the offending dog to carry out due process and to ensure that the dog is not a future danger to the public.”

“This incident happened at a busy location, alongside a main road so I am confident that people will know the dog or its owner and I appeal to anyone with any information do the right thing and speak to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on Twitter @MerPolCC, by calling 101 or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 19100450977.
