We have introduced a Section 60 order in the Seaforth area today, Thursday 20 November, giving officers additional powers to search people who are suspected of involvement in criminality and disorder.
The order runs from 3.30pm until 9am tomorrow, Friday 21 November and extra officers will be in the area to provide a visible presence to prevent crime or serious violence. It follows a report of shots being fired on a playing field in Litherland last night (Wednesday).
The Section 60 Order covers the area bounded in the map (attached) and includes the area bounded by Linacre Lane-Knowsley Road- Seaforth Road-Church Road- Crescent Road- Princess Way- Church Road-Hawthorne Road.
The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced stop and search powers to stop males in the area aged between 16 and 40 years of age, stop and search vehicles and seize any dangerous items or items used to conceal a person's identity.
Sefton Targeted Policing Inspector Michelle Butland said: "This order is not intended to disrupt anyone going about their lawful business but is intended to deter crime or serious violence.
“The aim, as ever, is to keep the public safe. I hope that the presence of our officers in the city centre is reassuring, and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to those officers."
