A brand-new Aldi supermarket is on its way to Litherland, with the highly anticipated store on Pendle Drive now confirmed to open in October 2025. The £7 million development is already taking shape and promises to bring jobs, investment, and a fresh retail offer to the community.
The new store is being built on the site of former Sefton Council buildings, which had stood derelict for some time.

Following demolition and clearance earlier this year, construction is now well underway on the modern superstore that will include 123 car parking spaces, provisions for electric vehicle charging points, and new pedestrian links to Pendle Drive and Gorsey Lane. The development will also see new road junctions installed, landscaping to improve the area’s appearance, and sustainability features such as solar panels.
When complete, the supermarket will create around 40 new full-time jobs, worth an estimated £1 million in annual salaries to the local economy. Aldi has also signed up to an Employment Skills and Development Plan with Sefton Council, designed to ensure that local people can access training and job opportunities connected to the new store.
Planning approval was granted in December 2024, despite objections from rival supermarket Tesco, and since then progress on site has been swift. Back in April, Sefton Council leader Cllr Marion Atkinson and Bootle MP Peter Dowd visited the site along with Aldi’s Property Director Bryn Richards and local ward councillors to see the works for themselves.

Cllr Atkinson said she was “pleased to see the progress” being made on a project that would provide both an affordable new shopping outlet and valuable employment opportunities for residents. Peter Dowd MP welcomed the store as “good news for nearby residents,” adding that it would create secure jobs while also improving local highways and pedestrian safety.
Aldi’s Property Director Bryn Richards thanked the council for its collaboration, saying: “We’re now moving forward with construction and look forward to welcoming our first customers in October 2025.”

The opening of the new Aldi is being hailed as a major boost for Litherland, regenerating a neglected part of the borough and giving residents a popular, affordable supermarket right on their doorstep.
