Bootle is set for an exciting boost as plans move forward to transform the former Bootle High School site on Browns Lane into a vibrant new housing development.
The project, part of the wider Sefton 2030 initiative led by The Sovini Group in partnership with Sefton Council, will bring new life to the long-unused brownfield site. The development will deliver high-quality, sustainable homes designed to meet the needs of local people.
This marks the first major step in an ambitious vision to create more than 1,000 affordable homes across the borough. The Browns Lane scheme alone will see around 400 properties delivered, offering a mix of social housing, shared ownership, and rent-to-buy options—giving more people the chance to find a place they can truly call home.
As well as providing much-needed housing, the development is expected to have a wider positive impact on the community. By making use of previously unused land, the project helps revitalise the area while also supporting local families to move into secure, long-term homes. It is hoped this will reduce the need for temporary accommodation and allow more residents to settle and thrive in the community.
There are also clear benefits for the local economy, with new jobs and training opportunities set to be created as the project progresses.
Sefton Council leader Marion Atkinson welcomed the development, highlighting the importance of delivering homes for local people while also reinvesting into vital services across the borough.
Local councillor Carla Thomas also praised the plans, describing them as a fantastic opportunity for residents looking to get onto the property ladder in a growing and thriving area.
Overall, the transformation of the former Bootle High School site represents a positive step forward for Bootle—bringing new homes, new opportunities, and a fresh future for the community.
