A Three-Minute Silence Will Be Held Today at 3pm

Today marks one year since the heartbreaking tragedy in Southport that claimed the lives of Elsie Dot Stancombe (7), Bebe King (6), and Alice Dasilva Aguiar (9), and left others injured and deeply affected.

At 3pm today (Tuesday 29th July 2025), a three-minute silence will be held across Sefton and the wider Liverpool City Region. Please join us — wherever you are — in a moment of reflection and remembrance.

This is a profoundly emotional and personal time for the families and all those impacted. Our thoughts remain with every person affected, and with the wider Southport community, whose compassion has been a powerful source of strength over the past year.

As part of today’s remembrance:

Flags will be lowered to half-mast on all public buildings
Churches and local spaces will be open for quiet reflection, prayer, and support
You are welcome to light a candle, speak to someone, or simply sit in silence in a place that feels right to you

In keeping with the wishes of the families and community leaders, please do not leave floral tributes at Hart Street or school sites.

Instead, people are encouraged to make a positive difference by donating to one of the following local appeals:

In an Open Letter to the community, Sefton Council Leader Cllr Marion Atkinson and Chief Executive Phil Porter wrote:

“Let us continue to honour the lives of Alice, Bebe, and Elsie — not only through remembrance, but by holding on to the values they embodied: joy, creativity, kindness, and love.”
