Merseyside Police have seized a vehicle following an incident in Southport on Sunday 6 June.

Patrols attended Marine Drive following reports that hundreds of vehicles were gathered in the area, with many being driven in an anti-social manner.

Police spoke to numerous drivers, issued eight warnings under Section 59 of the Police and Reform Act 2002, and conducted roadside breath tests and drugs wipes.

Officers seized a black McLaren vehicle under Section 59, as the vehicle was being driven in an anti-social manner.

The owner, a 30-year-old man from the Liverpool area, had been issued with a Section 59 warning previously and so his vehicle was seized for a repeat offence.

Inspector Carl McNulty said: “We know that driving in an anti-social manner can cause significant nuisance, stress and danger to our communities and that’s why we continue to work proactively disrupt those who behave in such a manner.”

“We hope that the seizure yesterday shows that if you are issued with a Section 59 warning because of your behaviour and you ignore us, there are no excuses, we will take your vehicle away.”

“Rest assured that this manner of driving will not be tolerated on the roads of Merseyside, and we will continue to respond to concerns raised by the public.”

Anyone with information on anti-social behaviour in their area can DM @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’. You can also call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website here: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously
