Crosby Bubble has received mixed reactions from local residents following the announcement that Sefton Padel Ltd is proposing to build a new padel sports facility in Coronation Park, Crosby.
One local resident contacted us directly, raising concerns about the project and questioning whether it is the right use of community space. Others, however, believe the development could bring new life to the park, boost local businesses, and create opportunities for residents of all ages.
A Resident’s Concerns:
In her message to Crosby Bubble, one woman shared her strong objections to the plans: “We had a letter today stating that Sefton Padel Ltd are going to build a huge padel centre in Coronation Park! First I’ve heard of this? I don’t agree that it’s a good idea. It will cause further congestion and the wrong use of community space.”
She also highlighted her belief that the Coronation Park Pavilion is under-used due to poor management, despite its value as a community space.
The resident urged people to attend upcoming meetings to share their views:
Thursday 4th September, 6–8pm
Saturday 6th September, 2–4pm
(both at Coronation Park Pavilion)

Sefton Padel’s Official Statement
In a letter sent to residents, Paul McComb, CEO & Founder of Sefton Padel Ltd, outlined the full vision for the development: “We are proposing to develop a padel facility at Coronation Park, including four courts, two of which will be covered with a canopy, alongside additional amenity space. We will also be refurbishing the existing tennis courts which are currently not in use and in a poor state.”
The plans also include:
Refurbishment of an underused building into a café and changing facility, accessible to all park users
A staffed café to provide security and employment opportunities
Repurposing one of the derelict bowling greens into a car park to help ease congestion in nearby streets
Relocating the padel courts to the centre of the park, around 40m from the nearest houses, to reduce noise impact
Moving the existing netball/basketball facilities to a new location on part of the old tennis courts
Mr McComb stressed the benefits of padel, describing it as a fast-growing social sport with strong community potential: “Padel offers numerous community benefits, helping to promote social inclusivity, reduce anti-social behaviour, tackle childhood obesity, limit screen time, and encourage new friendships while combating loneliness.”
He added: “We hope this facility will be a positive addition for all park users.”
Divided Opinions
While some residents share the woman’s concerns about congestion and the use of community space, others feel the new padel centre would bring much-needed investment and activity to the area.
One local volunteer told us the development could help attract more visitors to Crosby, benefiting nearby businesses on Coronation Road and St John’s Road.
