Man Charged After 79 Injured in Liverpool Parade Crash

This is the image of Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, the man who has been charged following a devastating crash that occurred shortly after Liverpool FC’s title parade on Monday, May 26th.
At approximately 6:00pm, a Ford Galaxy collided with a crowd of people on Water Street, after being driven from Dale Street, in what police have called a “shocking and appalling incident.” A total of 79 people were injured, seven of whom remain in hospital receiving care. The parade had drawn large crowds across the city to celebrate Liverpool’s latest football triumph.
Merseyside Police have now confirmed that Paul Doyle, 53, of Burghill Road, West Derby, has been charged with seven serious offences, including:
Two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
Two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent
Two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent
One count of dangerous driving
He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 30th.
Police Statement:
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims gave a public update, stating:
“Our thoughts remain with all those injured and affected by the appalling incident that took place during the Liverpool Football Club parade.
“Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek answers. This remains a large and complex investigation. We are reviewing vast amounts of CCTV, dashcam footage, mobile phone videos, and police body-worn camera footage.”
She added that officers have been in contact with all injured parties and thanked members of the public and local businesses for coming forward with vital information.
“I would encourage anyone who has not yet contacted police but has relevant information or footage to please come forward,” she said.

Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, also issued a statement:
“The investigation is still in its early stages. Prosecutors and police are working at pace to review an immense amount of video footage and witness testimony. The charges will be kept under review as the case progresses.”
“These shocking scenes reverberated across Liverpool and the wider country on what should have been a joyful day for supporters. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.”
“We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are now active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. Please avoid speculation or sharing anything online that could prejudice the case.”
