A 21-year-old man has today, Friday, 6 September been sentenced to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to killing his father.

On Wednesday, 27 March, it was reported that 90-year-old Williams Burns had been assaulted three days earlier on Sunday, 24 March at an address in Fatherside Drive, Netherton.

He was taken to hospital with chest and facial injuries, where he sadly passed away on Saturday, 6 April.

Michael Burns of Fatherside Drive, Netherton was arrested and subsequently charged with manslaughter on Friday, 10 May and has today been sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Richie Jones said: “This is a tragic case which involved William Burns sustaining injuries that eventually contributed to his death at the hands of his son, following an argument at the family home. Sadly his health deteriorated and he passed away just under two weeks after the assault.”
