Met Office yellow warning of winds which are set to hit almost 60mph across Sefton today

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across #Sefton today.

Forecasters say there will be strong winds from 3pm today, Thursday 12th January, until 3am on Friday, across Sefton but particularly the coastal areas of #Crosby, #Formby and #Southport.

A second yellow wind warning is also in place between 3pm on Friday 13th January and 3am on Saturday 14th January for the same areas.

The Met Office are warning of potential "disruption to transport and infrastructure" in these areas.

Gales are set to hit speeds of 58 mph overnight, a speed the Beaufort scale describes as having the potential to damage chimneys and roofs and bring down trees.

A flood alert remains in place for the River Alt and other watercourses from Huyton to Hightown including, Kirkby, #Fazakerley, #Maghull, Formby, Aughton, #Sefton and #Lunt. A spokesperson from the National Trust Formby said: “Due to high winds, both car parks will be closed from 3.30pm today, Thursday and all day tomorrow, Friday 13th January. We hope to re-open by Saturday afternoon.”

”Please bare with us as we must carry out tree safety checks.“

“If you venture out on foot, please stick to open spaces and away from woodland areas.”

High Tides: The high tide today was at 2pm, the next high tide is at 2:28am and then 2:39pm. The tides are not that high but due to the strong winds will be higher than normal.
